Great Bear Rainforest

Updated: Nov 12

The Great Bear Rainforest, located in British Columbia, holds the distinction of being the largest intact temperate rainforest in the world. This majestic forest extends over 700 km to Alaska and covers an expansive area of 64,000 km². Its unique location near both mountains and the ocean contributes to the copious rainfall it receives, fostering a verdant landscape and supporting a diverse array of wildlife. Among its inhabitants is the rare Kermode Bear, unique to this region. The rainforest is also home to ancient Western Red Cedar trees and towering Sitka Spruces, some reaching as high as 90 meters. It was only after significant environmental advocacy efforts led by WWF that, in 2004, the entire expanse was designated as a Protected National Reserve. Today, the Great Bear Rainforest is celebrated by WWF and the UN as the world's most exquisite temperate rainforest park.
